The Hero Inside You!
17/05/2007 - David Bruce

Life is filled with choices. Lots of choices. But only a few are as life-changing as the one Peter Parker had to make in Spider-Man 2. Peter had to decide whether he wanted to be Spider-Man—or not.
Peter finally understood that being Spider-Man had consequences: "No matter what I do, no matter how hard I try, it is the ones I love who will always be the ones that pay."
He felt that to be Spider-Man he would have to give up his girlfriend, Mary Jane. Sometimes life demands difficult decisions of us.
The price was too great for him. "I want a life of my own. Spider-Man? No more!" And he threw his Spider-Man outfit in the trash.
However, his Aunt May had some important words for him: "I believe there's a hero in all of us- that gives us strength; makes us noble. Even though sometimes we have to give up the thing we want the most." It is interesting to note that the Bible also speaks of this "inner man"—'this inner hero—in each of us.
Aunt May was also correct when she stated that in order for that hero to emerge, we need to "give up" the things that get in the way.
Here is what the Bible says about the inner hero—and purpose—in each of us.
1. God has a mission for each of us.
"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him."
2. We need to “give up" the things that hold us back.
Our sins separate us from God and all that He has prepared for us to do. "All have sinned; all fall short of God's glorious standard,"3 and "the wages of sin is death."
3. Jesus bridges the gap between us and God.
God placed our sins on Jesus as He died on the cross. Our sins died with Jesus. And, that's not all. When Jesus rose from the grave, He provided the ultimate victory over sin and death. His resurrection means we can have new life through Him. "But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners."
 4. By trusting Jesus we can have new life.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life."6 It is as simple as that by believing and trusting in what Jesus has done for us, we are freed from sin and can experience new life—a hero's life—with God!
 5. It starts with a simple prayer.
To begin your new hero's journey that God has prepared for you, simply pray a prayer like this: Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me so much that You died for my sins that separated me from God. 1 turns from my old way of life and ask You to forgive me. I surrender my life to You. I desire Your help to live the life God has prepared for me. Thank You for the promise of eternal life with You. Amen.
As your new journey in life begins, it is important that you join with other Christians. Let the people who gave you this leaflet know of your decision.
